Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island is historical resort between the Upper and Lower Peninsula of Michigan. People travel to the island to enjoy the historic charm, scenic beauty, and healthy environment. The island is filled with luscious forests, extraordinary geological formations, and gorgeous vistas of Lake Huron. On top of that, Mackinac Island is automobile free; Horse-drawn carriages, bike riding or good old fashion walking is how the people get around. Victorian homes line the narrow streets creating character and charm. Let’s not forget about the fudge: Mackinac is the modern-day fudge capital. Having 15 shops to choose from, fudge is the number one sweet souvenir to get from Mackinac Island.

Visiting Mackinac Island is like hitting the recharge button. It’s a great place to get away for the weekend and relax. Arriving on the ferry sets the tone for the island. Hearing the waves crashing against the shores and horse hooves tapping the streets creates an atmosphere that can only be enjoyed on Mackinac Island. The Victorian and Tudor architecture of the buildings brings a historical ambiance along with the horse-drawn carriage rides. While strolling down Main Street, there is a wonderful aroma of fresh fudge while passing multiple candy shops. Not too far away, one can explore the nature trails of the state park where the scenery is peaceful and enthralling. For any Michigander, Mackinac Island is a short distance to paradise. As one of the last bastions of historical paradise left, we should continue to preserve Mackinac Island and the history it exemplifies. Let’s continue to support our national historic landmarks and Save MI History!
